Lifting the Tatties

It's that time of year again - the time for lifting the potatoes.

Don't you just love seeing baskets of Red Roosters heading out of the plot and towards the garage...


 Don't you just love seeing kids with their own cromain...

... and finding their own tatties (Duke of York Whites here)

 Don't you love seeing the potatoes coming in bit by bit...

And don't you love .... Ahem, ... don't you love..... er, the blue skies?
 (What did you think I was gonna say, guys?)

Laurie, you asked last week to see some of the plot. 

 This is the first cage, now almost empty. The empty space is where we had the Brocolli and Calabrese.

Over to the left is the Winter Cauliflower.

Here are the leeks, fighting their way through the weeds, and looking decidedly unimpressed with the gardener's lack of gardening.

And here are some Brussel Sprouts we picked today. (Do you 'pick' Sprouts? Or lift them?) They're sitting in a leaf in the photo, and we'll have them tomorrow.

Brussel Sprouts aren't my favourite, if I'm honest, but I normally parboil them and then stir-fry them with bacon just before we eat them. That makes them tastier.

Just before I go, I must tell you that Big Brother got a new ram.

Competition for John Wayne. BB reckoned he was going to be called Bill, but we soon quashed that ridiculous notion. He is Bruce.

You may think Robert. 

I shall think Willis.

I shall also have photos next week. That way you can all see that we were right to name him Bruce.

  1. OK, I am concerned...Bruce Willis? REALLY? Showing your age....aherm.....Bruce Lee is more talented, but at least you didn't suggest "Forsyth"..."nice to see you, to see you,...." It would have to be Robert the Bruce for me! Back to the tatties - YUM! My sign of being over my nausea was having left over mash and white sauce this afternoon, from having too much to make the fish pie for dinner - yummy! A bit of butter, a bit of cream, and some seasoning....*bliss*

  6. Caroline - that sounds yummt. No wonder you got over your nausea!

    Keri, Sherri... these are only about one-third of the potato crop. All being well, they'll feed us until next Summer - and no doubt, extended family will be taking bits and bobs for themselves too!

  8. We just pulled up all our potatoes yesterday. Hardly any compared to your harvest, but they will last us through the winter. We also got the rest of the onions and garlic (a bit late) and many many (TOO many) pumpkins. I don't know what to do with them all. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin butter, pumpkin bread...
