Living on my Nerves

Oh dear me. It's official. He's driving legally. On the roads. In the town.

I don't think my nerves can take it.

We bought this car because it's easier to insure for a 17 year old driver.

Insurance companies do not like 17 year old boys.

There are reasons for their dislike of 17 year old boys.

When I was young (my kids laugh at that phrase: 'When I was young....'. They reckon I say it ALL the time. It's not true, of course.)

Anyway, when I was young, I thought we should be able to drive legally when we were ...oh, probably .. about twelve.

Now? Well, now I think the age should be around twenty-two. At least.

Seriously, this is scarey. And I think I need a brandy. Except that it would probably make me throw up. I don't know how anyone can drink that stuff.

I'm rambling. I know I am. It's my nerves. When I get very nervous, I talk non-stop. That's what I'm doing just now.

B-R-E-A-T-H-E

Okay. I'm more calm now. This is what calmed me.

We had our own baby carrots and broccoli tonight.

We also had our own red onion and coriander. I must tell you all about my coriander. But I can't get my thoughts together right now.

I'm not kidding. I'm not ready to be the mother of a 17 year old. When I was young (there's that phrase again)..... When I was young, the mothers of 17 year olds were.... kind of old. And I don't feel 'kind of old'.

I have got to go. I'm rambling again. I need to go and talk to some vegetables. I need to feel calm again.

I love you all. And please stick with me. I will be calm the next time I say 'Hi' to you. Promise.

  2. I very much understand. Anna's brother, Ben, is 16. Here in VA, you can get your license before 17......he is driving.....I am praying. However, today he drove down the road smiling on his 1948 Farmall Super A tractor that he restored over the winter. He smiled a big grin and said he is just fine driving this for the rest of his life. I love my son and his hillbilly hotrod!

  3. Leslie, THAT's my kinda guy! Actually, it's our kids' kinda guy too! And I wouldn't be living on my nerves if that all DR was driving..... It's the way to go!

Dawn - I wont begin to tell what my father let me do at age.....well, we'll leave it blank, me thinks! (Isn't it funny that it's the dads?? NOT the mums....) But it's so different when you're the parent, not the child...
As Leslie (above) says: he's driving, I'm praying.

    Love, x

  4. I remember the first time I drove all the way to town by myself (my sister included) the drive is about thirty minuets and everything went very well, but on the way home a big bear ran across our dirt road and sent chills down our backs! He he he. But I had a sense of sadness that day, because I knew that I was becoming more independent. And I actually didn't want to! I wanted to stay a child and remain at home forever! LOL :)

Anyways, I am excited for your D.R. But I am sad for you! I can't imagine the day my little guy will be driving! And I am sure this is how you felt when your little guy was a wee one too!

    Much love Anne!

Oh, I love your ramblings!! Your posts are SOOOO FUN to read!!! :D

  5. I had heard that your boy was now out on the roads, apparently my hubby met him in the sports centre the other day.

I think I'll be a nervous wreck too in another 7 years time! It's actually not that far away is it?!

  6. Oh Anne,
I don't blame you for " the nerves" . Just be glad , though that Scotland insists on 17 . Over here in Michigan , they can start at 14 years and 8 months !!!
That means Allan could start in 2 months. I say " could" , not " will". Na truaghan ! I think I shall follow your wise judgement and keep them like the Flintstones until at least 21 !
