Ten-pin Bowling

After dinner last night, we went ten-pin bowling.

Of course, I was streets ahead of the rest of them.

It's all to do with technique...

 And the leg kick

Yes, I found the leg kick to be absolutely necessary. Mind you, the necessity wasn't for good scoring, but rather to keep me from falling flat on my face.

As the game progressed, I became more skilled...

 Can you tell?

All that effort.... I think I pulled a muscle...

Put on a brave face, Anne. You cannot seriously tell folks you pulled a muscle rolling a ball down an alley.

I mean, if I'd been playing squash, or doing karate, or running a marathon. Or even just running. Maybe even just up the stair.... then there would be some excuse.

But chucking a ball down an alley?

After all that effort, can you see where the ball has gone? Into the gutter.

Never mind, my faithful band of followers were there to console me. What a delightful crowd of people I own as friends. Huh!

This fellow's technique wasn't much better...

... but was he competitive?
You are dead right he was. So, so competitive!

Isn't this one adorable..

... except when she's laughing at my downfall.

Oh, talking of technique: we have...
 Katie's egg-laying technique;

the Wee Guy's chucking-the-scraps-to-the-hens technique

You know, I have no idea where that thought came from. I haven't seen scraps being chucked to hens in about thirty years, and yet this is what came to mind when I saw the stance in this photo.

Are there any psychologists out there? Is there something you could tell me? Actually, keep it to yourselves: I think I'd rather not know, thank you.

There were some with better technique...

Catherine ended the game in 2nd place.

 But our winner was...

Heather!

These Americans. They're everywhere.
And winning too!

  1. I enjoyed this post. You really know how to keep people laughing. That is such a little bowling alley, but nice! I prefer them quiet. The bowling alleys here in Warsaw are so loud with music. In Lithuania, they were equally loud and the music was most often profane. Not a place to take anyone! I am so glad you are having fun.

  3. not sure that it would be a good thing for someone to take a photo of me bowling NOR from that angle.....I am right-handed, but I think I can almost bowl as well with my left...that sums my skill up!

  6. Fun post! I think you were a brave photographer standing behind those bowlers. Not once, but twice, I've flung a bowling ball behind me. (Inadvertantly, of course.)

  12. Cute post. :) Who cares about technique when you're having so much fun and you have such enthusiastic cheerleaders??! Btw, thanks for your sweet blog comments - we're so excited about having another one!

Send some of your 50 degree temps our way - Texas has had entirely too many 100 degree days this summer and it's only mid-July....

  14. Okay, I'm wanting to WILL myself into the header photo. How beautiful is that?!!! As for the bowling, I'm intrigued. How are the lanes set up? Are there only 2 lanes in the bowling alley? Do you even call it an "alley" in Scotland? Did I ever tell you that part of my heritage is Scottish? My paternal grandmother's maiden name is Wallace. Could the curly-locked blonde hair be any cuter? And finally, THANK YOU for praying for my cousin Cheryl. She is burying her son today, now, as I type this. So much pain. :(
    Blessings,
    Toni

  15. Oh Toni, my heart aches to hear of what their family is going through.... We do call it a bowling alley - even when there are only two lanes! It's small, but good fun to have it so close to us. That's certainly a very Scottish name - Wallace! Do you know when your people left Scotland?

Thank you all for visiting and stopping to say Hi.... Yes, it was fun, and yes, Rachel, it's great having a bowling alley without loud music. You can actually choose your own music - you can ask for your ipod to be put into their music system and listen to that.... or listen to nothing! Great!
