Bin Laden is Dead

So, Osama bin Laden is dead.

We all remember where we were when we began hearing the news on the morning of 11th September 2001. Who of us can ever forget the images of the plane flying into the second tower? The memory of our own emotions will never die.

President Obama says that today is a good day for America and that the world is, today, as safer place.

I want to believe this is true. But the truth is that, despite the fact that Osama is dead, his legacy lives on. I would be amazed if his death does not ignite enthusiasm in many who would follow in his footsteps.

My thoughts are with those who lost loved ones on 9/11. This day may have some satisfaction, but nothing can undo their sorrow. Nothing can bring their loved ones back. Today's news will be bittersweet.

I am also so thankful that no American SEALs were killed in the operation. Without doubt, this was an incredible operation and for them all to return to base safely is such an achievement.

We now pray for our armed forces, still in Afghanistan and in Iraq.

We pray for those who are still sorrowing for loved ones killed by terrorists, whether in the USA or on our London streets.

And we pray for our leaders, that they would be wise in the decisions they make.

  2. I had some of the same mixed feelings when I heard the news. I am thankful that our hope is in God and not in this topsy-turvy world.

  3. Yes, I think you are right on all that.
Ironic, we were shopping yesterday when a young man in a western store started helping me with a hat. He was wearing a bracelet that had "never forget" and someone's name, "Sgt"....
I asked him about it. He was a first responder in Iraq and lost his best friend there. It has been several years but yesterday was the first day he could handle wearing the bracelet. The hurt was evident in his eyes. Nothing but God's healing will take that away. Been praying for him today.

  4. Amen. It's as though you've read my mind and expressed my mixed emotions. President Bush was here in Sarasota, Florida that awful morning. I wish Bin Laden's death would rewind time and take us back to September 10, 2001 before I became so abruptly and brutally aware of terrorism. I'm concerned what the extremists are going to do for retribution. This is the first time ever (apparently) that a worldwide travel warning has been issued for Americans.

  6. Amen to all of that. And a heartfelt prayer that God will guide and strengthen both all our leaders, and us as we travel through this life, and trusting that His goodness and mercy will prevail.

  8. "Those who live by the sword, die by the sword"
    Matthew 26:52

Yes, I agree. His death will not make this world a safer place. This world is fallen and will continure to decline until our King makes His glorious appearance.
While I am personally thankful this particular man is no longer able to conspire, scheme, and carry out deadly plans against innocent unsuspecting people, I cannot "celebrate" the killing of any man.
But I can say that justice was served in this particular case.

    Blessings, Julie

  11. Well said. I suppose there is some satisfaction for all of us, but I grieve his lost soul. It's so very tragic to me. So very final for him. I've been thinking about what it must be like for him now to know how terribly wrong he was. There is no turning back for him. He is waiting for eternal death like so many that deny Jesus the Christ who came to die for all men.

Glory be to a living God who reign on high!
