My Christmas Present...

"I am so ill, I can hardly speak."

....you know the scene in Persuasion?! If only the sight of a few walking friends would do the same for me as it did for her!

Anyway, that's not what I came to tell you.

My Christmas present arrived yesterday. (Hey - different time zone. What can I say ...?)

Well, before I show you what it is:

Have y' all seen Father of the Bride with Steve Martin? You know when his daughter receives the Juicer from her fiancee as an 'anniversary' present? You remember?

And you remember that she, er, ... let's just say she 'lost it'.

"What message is he trying to give me, Dad?"

"Er... that a juicer would be nice in your kitchen, maybe??"

She then rants and raves about what the stereotypical 1950s housewife connotations of what he bought her were.

(Of course, the thought that anybody could imagine me as the stylish, elegant, skillful homemaker that was the 50s housewife.....well, we can but dream.)

My Christmas present isn't a juicer, but you can bear in mind the fact that us women often wonder what a gift-giver had in mind when a certain gift was bought.

You want to know what the Builder gave me?

A treadmill!

I'm in bed with the flu and so can't even test it out. But I am well enough to ask the Builder, 'Er, what exactly are you trying to tell me?'!!

I hope you recover quickly! If I lived closer, I'd gladly bring you a pot of chicken soup...or anything else that you desired.

    Hugs from across the ocean!

  5. Thank you, Davene {{}}

And thank you all for all the faith you have in my dear husband's motives!! (Actually, it was my own choice ;)..... I'm only kidding about any other possible thinking on hubby's part. I can say these things because I know none of you would think ill of the Builder. Would you now?!

  6. Hah! I've been asking my husband to get me a treadmill for a while now, but he won't. He says "Honey, you don't need one of those." Awwww. And just when I am about to take it as a compliment he adds,"Just do one of those exercise DVDs."

(Heehee... it's all in good fun.)

  7. Oh dear - I don't think I would know what to think either!
What a thoughtful gift though - if you asked for it!
Hope you have fun with it anyway

  8. Oh, I wish I had a treadmill! But first I would have to have a place to put it, I guess, and my house is too small already with the 6 of us and a cat. My exercise suffers a bit in the Michigan winter not having a treadmill.

    Enjoy!

  9. If it makes you feel any better, Mr. C told me just 2 days ago that he thinks he needs to get me a treadmill. These men, what are we going to do with them? Hug and kiss them I suppose, cause they just want to keep us healthy, for a long happy marriage, that's what I'm thinking!
