Where were you....?

I doubt anyone who reads this will not remember where they were when they heard the news of the terrorist attacks in New York.

I was in London, Ontario. My mum and I were out visiting some relatives at the time. I remember wishing I could cross over just to be on American soil.

Just to ..... to what? I really don't know. Just to show support. To show my love.

The weather the day we were at the Statue of Liberty was appropriate.

Right in the middle of this photos is the gap where the Twin Towers stood.

No words.

I'm not American. I have nothing but Scottish blood in me.

But I love this flag. I love what it represents.

It stirs my heart.

The Cemetery beside us here (in the previous post) hold the remains of a man who was killed in the Twin Towers that day. It's amazing to think that in this small corner of the globe, a family was directly affected by these events.

Today, we remember with horror and sadness the events of that day.

We pray for our soldiers every day - both British and American - but today, we'll remember them in a special way.

And we'll remember that great nation, the USA, which God has blessed in so many ways over the years. But 'to whom much has been given, much shall be required'. Like the UK, the USA has had great privileges. We also, then, have great, great responsibilities.

I fear neither nation can claim to be making good use of a wonderful heritage. That is frightening.

God bless families today who are still grieving the events of 9/11.

  1. Great words Anne! I do feel sober at the direction our nation is going, but I am also encouraged by the many, many young men and women over here who are seeking to turn out country back to its roots, and its foundation, which is in God's word. You'd make a mighty good American! :) -Rachel

  4. That verse - 2nd Chronicles 7:14 is so very, very appropriate. Thank you for commenting and for giving this verse.

Thank you all for dropping by. Even my heart feels so heavy today. Sometimes is is better for us to be in the house of mourning than in the house of feasting (Eccl 7:2)

    Love, Anne x

  5. You probably have no idea how kind and encouraging your words are. Something changed/seemed to shift in the world that day didn't it? It seems that the world we live in now is so mixed up and sympathies have swung to the craziest opposite extremes. It is comforting to remember we have friends. Many Blessings Anne.
    Much Love,
    Pam

  6. Thanks for the reminder. Even over here things seemed to come to a stop with everyone glued to a TV screen somewhere.
I was home after working a night shift so watched it from about lunch time on (which was their night time)

  7. Beautiful post Anne. Very touching and encouraging. Lately I have mourned for the current state of our country and the UK more then anything else. It has become so backwards. It brings tears to my eyes to think of how it once was. Much love dear friend!

    In Christ,
    Elizabeth

  8. You are so spot on regarding much being required of our priviledged nation. As an example of personal significance, I'm deeply saddened by the push for Godlessness in so many ways in our culture. I homeschool my children, in part, because I desire Him to be a constant part of our lives and not just a compartment of our lives.

Thank you so much for your words of compassion and support. My husband works for American Airlines, which as you know, had 2 airplanes, passengers and crews lost in the attacks on 9/11. It was (and still is) deeply wounding for so many people here in America. To be reminded that the impact was not limited to us and that others truly grieve and care as well, is so very comforting.

So glad I found your blog, Anne. Oh, and the cornmeal cakes sound delish, btw.
    Blessings,
    Toni

  9. Toni - oh, it must be horrendous for you and for your husband to watch footage of American Airlines planes....

Yes, Pam, I think something 'shifted' as you say, that day. How many decisions have been made - for good or ill - with that day's events in mind?? We'll never really know how many of them were right and how many were wrong. But we do know that nothing happens as a surprise to God. It's all in His plan.

It does us good to bear that in mind.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment.
    Love y'all
    Anne x

  10. I've been away from the computer for a few days, and just now had time to do a little catching up.

Thank you for posting this, Anne. It is such a sorrowful fact that the impact of this event truly did touch so many, all around the globe, not just us here in the USA.

It is very sad indeed to see the direction of our nation, so many choose to live by their own will and not God's. Every nation is dealing with this same issue.

What a comfort, to have contact with a sister in Christ from another continent who shares and understands our sorrow.
