My Purposeful Reading

Seeing as we were talking the other day about the girls' reading, and how their reading ought to be purposeful reading, I thought I too should purpose not only to read purposefully, but to read consistently.

With this in mind, I think I shall make myself accountable to all y'all, and let you know of some of the books I want to read this year. There are a mixture of  genres: some are read for pleasure, and are curl-up-on-the-sofa types; some are read because I reckon they have teaching I want to learn; others are read because they're books I want the girls to read and I want a head-start.... You get the picture?

(By 'read' I mean start and finish. In the past few years, beginning a book has never been a problem; however, finishing it has been a different matter.)

Here's my list for January:

Behind Convent Walls: The Story of Charlotte de Bourbon, wife of William the Silent, by Beth J Coombe Harris

I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Joshua Harris

Elijah, A.W. Pink

The Scarlet Thread, Francine Rivers

The Last Days of Jesus, T.V. Moore (I have read and part-read this book a number of times, and I never tire of it. I have it beside 'my' seat in the Family Room almost all the time, and dip into it as I please. I may ... may ... determine to read it through, but, on the other hand, I may keep it where it is, and enjoy it as I please)

Each one of us has a list for this month, and I'll post the girls' reading lists in the next couple of days.

  1. Elijah is a great book. I read it years ago but dip into it frequently.
We've got some Pink on Hebrews that I would like to read this year but this hasn't got further than aspiration so far. The font isn't great which doesn't help varifocal Mum.
Behind Convent Walls shouldn't be a problem to get through-it is the sort of book that tends to get read in a sitting usually into the small hours.
Must look at some of your other books-always on the lookout for more. I've put my reading onto the side of my blog mainly to force myself to keep going-I can't, I think, leave them all unfinished.

  2. I also posted a list of books I would like to read this year on my blog. There's something about having it out there for everyone to see that makes me feel more accountable! I look forward to seeing what your girls are reading as well since I'm always looking for new books for my daughters.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Behind convent Walls is done and dusted! As you say, S.E., it's a quick read - I hadn't really expected that from the cover, but that was actually a nice surprise! I like to read some books the girls are going to read and that allows me to have some idea of essay questions I may set for them.
Hi Tracey, you're right about the 'accountability' thing... I'm hoping anyway! x
