Visiting Patrice when all the Others have Gone

Well, I think I can safely say this is my latest visit to date with Patrice. There is almost a week since Patrice and the Gang met up on her porch, but I am going to post this before our next meet-up. I may even be on time for that one.

1. What's your favourite day of the week? Why?

Ooooh, that's a hard one, Patrice. I'm thinking Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I do get 'that Friday feeling' and pull out the Crunchies. If I have to head to town to do the shopping, I put the Crunchies back, and Fridays cease to be my favourite day.

I love Saturdays because we're off, we don't do school and the Builder is home all day. I do love Saturdays, and I plan every single week just how the day is going to go.

And every single week, my plans go to pot, I get only about half my intended To-dos done, and I'm still in the kitchen around 9pm. Then Saturday is in danger of losing its special status as My Favourite Day.

And then there's Sunday. Nobody is rushing to get jobs done. I have time to read. To think. We are able to meet up with other Christians and worship together. Our family is together for our meal, and there is never any need to rush away from the table. And then after the evening service, we sit around the table again for pancakes and more conversations.

Sunday evenings are such a lovely family time. We normally read together, talk of what we've read, and generally enjoy the peace and quiet of a Sunday evening. We all love this time, and the Builder and I often wish that time could stay still in these late hours of Sunday evening.

And so to Sunday's problem: it ends too quickly. Knowing the busy-ness of another week is upon us, and that my favourite Friday-Saturday-Sunday threesome is coming to an end really makes me want to cling on just that wee while longer.

Yep, I love Sundays because of its slowness compared with the hectic nature of my other days. I love Sundays because I am able to rest more than on any other day. I love Sundays because we go, as a family, to our place of worship and hear God's Word preached and sung with our fellow-believers. And I love Sundays because it is the Lord's Day, and my soul is able to quietly go about the business of getting to know my Saviour better.

2. Do you have a blog? Please tell us the name of it and how long you've had it.

Well, I have a blog ... and you're reading it! How long have I had it? Erm ... I'll have to look that up.

Okay - found it! I began with this post in March 2010, and I've been blethering to readers ever since.

3. What's the last book you read? If you're not a reader, please tell us about the last movie you saw.

This book, Age of Opportunity ...

gets a definite recommendation from me. I will speak about it in some later post, but take it from me: It is worth reading.

I've also recently read Living by God's Promises. Again, I'd recommend this precious book of encouragement.

I posted recently about our just having finished the whole of the Little House series as read-alouds. Read here for that post.

As for movies ... we don't seem to have much time for watching movies during the summer months. It's much more of a winter activity for us, so I think the last one we watched was The Iron Lady

I wouldn't not recommend the movie, but given that it's supposed to be about the life of someone as fascinating as Margaret Thatcher, it is a somewhat disappointing.

4. Do you ever doodle with a pen or pencil while something else is going on?

I doodle all the time. When I'm on the phone, I write words or phrases from the whole conversation. The finished article is hilarious, and may include 'sentences' like: He had a wonderful meal at the match reading a great book. Many combinations and snippets of conversation. When I don't have a paper and a pen at hand, I actually write with my finger. I do this even in a one-on-one conversation. The kids will often ask me, 'What is that you just wrote?'. I am totally unaware that I'm doing it!

5. Tell me about your bathroom towels. What colour are they? Do they all match?

The main bathroom has browns and creams. Our en-suite has white. The girls' en-suite has turquoise and pink towels, and the wee toilet at the back door has the dregs!

Well, Patrice, I hope to see you on your porch in just another day or two for our next chat. And this time, I hope to be with all the other ladies too!

  2. My mother used to always say "Better late than never". You are always welcome on the porch. Another doodler like me! Yay, doodlers. Sunday is a good day. I almost didn't recognize Meryl Streep on the movie that you posted. Too bad the movie isn't great, but she is a really good actress. I love the Little House books. The new chat will be posted early Tuesday. I hope to see you there!
