Butts of Lewis

The most northerly part of this island on which we live is called the Butt of Lewis.


The funniest part of the top of the island being called the Butt is that, until very recently, I saw no irony.


The 'Butt' was a headland. Nothing more.


But apparently, all over the world, the Butt can mean something else.


Apparently.


This morning, I went out to photograph the Butt from my back door.
